Description

The University of Colorado Boulder Police Department (CUPD) is accepting applications for a Police Officer (Lateral)! CUPD exists to maintain order, prevent, solve, and document criminal activity. Police Officers' duties can include the following: conduct various methods of patrol, arrest violators, file criminal cases with prosecuting attorneys' offices, respond to emergencies, and provide a wide range of citizen assistance. Police Officers work special events including athletic events, distinguished speakers and lecturers, and concerts. Police Officers will routinely solve issues that require heightened decision making abilities, and use analysis and individual discretion to make choices affecting others and the campus at large.

We are seeking a POST Academy Graduate for the position of Lateral Police Officer. Upon hire, candidates will complete the CUPD Police Training Officer (PTO) Program and a probationary period.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Colorado Driver License.

No Felony convictions.

No Domestic violence convictions.

Must not have acquired more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver’s license.

No alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and no repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years.

Requirements Specific to Lateral Officer:
Possession of current Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of specialized education or training. Possession of current, valid Colorado P.O.S.T. certification will substitute for one year of college coursework (30 semester hours).
One year of patrol law enforcement experience and currently employed as a police officer (or employed as a police officer within the last 6 months).
Law enforcement experience from a municipal, state, or county commissioned agency.
Policing experience such as federal, railroad, private police, military, and correctional facilities law enforcement will not be considered as equivalent Police Officer experience.

For Candidates with Jail Deputy or Correctional Institution Experience:
CUPD recognizes the experience gained through working at a correctional institution or jail facility and compensates individuals with this experience for their number of years’ experience in this capacity up to Step 3 in the Police Officer Salary Schedule. Experience will be evaluated during the offer process.

To qualify to enter at an increased step within the Police Officer Salary Schedule, the above individual must be currently employed at a correctional institution or jail facility within the last 6 months and must have detentions experience from a full-time county sheriff’s department detention facility or a full time large municipal detention facility. State or Federal Corrections settings will be considered on a case-by-case basis depending on job duties, training, and experience. Experience that is recognized is determined by a number of factors including daily interaction and communication with detainees and is at the discretion of CUPD.

Demonstrates a willingness to take action, while maintaining a respect for human life.
Demonstrates cultural competency and a willingness to grow.
Willingness to meaningfully engage with the community.
Inclusivity, collaborator focused, proactive, trained and prepared.
