The Starkville Police Department is a national and state accredited agency.
Duties: A Police Officer is required to patrol an assigned area on foot or in a vehicle; control traffic; prevent crime or disturbances of the peace and to arrest law-violators; enforce laws and ordinances of the municipality; provide service and assistance to the public in non-law enforcement situations.
-Competitive salary—Entry-level officers start at a reduced hourly rate until successful completion of initial police training. Salary is based on 2236 hours per year.
-Length of service increases— 3% salary increase given after 3 years of service in the position, 6 years, 10 years, 15 years, and in five-year increments going forward.
-Medical and dental insurance -Fully paid by the City for each officer. Dependent coverage is available with the employee paying the full cost for dependent coverage.
-Life insurance—$10,000 Life insurance benefit provided for each employee with full cost paid by the City.

A thorough background investigation will be conducted on each applicant. Candidates must become certified through appropriate training.
Minimum age of 21 on date of employment; a high school diploma or state-recognized equivalent; a passing score on the Department's aptitude examination; satisfactory completion of a physical fitness exam, a written evaluation, and a psychological fitness examination; 20/20 vision or vision correctable to 20/20; normal hearing; possession of valid Mississippi driver's license and acceptable MVR; satisfactory prior work (job) experience, if applicable, and good moral character.
