Description

SALARY RANGE: $71,302 - $91,766 annually

(Police Cadets earn $5,480.58 monthly while in the Academy)

NEW HIRE INCENTIVES: $5,000 sign-on bonus for certified/laterals, $2,500 sign-on bonus for non-certified

LATERAL ENTRY PROGRAM: Must have 2 years of experience as paid full time Peace Officer from comparable size agency with no more than three years break in service, TCOLE Certified, starting pay commensurate to experience and training.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Ensure the safety and security of municipal streets, buildings, residences, and neighborhoods. Responsibilities include maintaining readiness for emergency call response; responding to emergency calls when dispatched and taking proper action; conducting patrol; performing routine Police equipment maintenance; educating staff and public on crime safety/prevention; and performing other tasks related to Police Department activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Patrols assigned areas to prevent crime, and enforce laws, and responds to emergency calls, and complaints. Direct traffic, operates radar monitoring equipment, and issues traffic citations. Conducts initial investigations of traffic accidents, and crimes against persons and property. Duties also include service of warrants and making arrests, processing of prisoners, and appearing in court as required.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum age of 21 and a High School Diploma or GED.
At least 30 college hours from an accredited institution is preferred.
Must pass:
Written examination
Background investigation
Essential Job Function screening
Polygraph test
Oral Review Board
Psychological screening
Drug test

Must possess good moral character and meet any other standards set by law or by policy of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver’s License.
Lateral Entry Officers must meet the requirements set forth in the Colleyville Police Department’s General Orders 401 (L).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to perform medium work that involves walking, standing, sitting, stooping, jumping, stretching, or lifting. The employee frequently is required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the essential functions of this position involves routine and frequent exposure to:

Safety equipment is provided as needed per job assignment and must be worn as required by department procedures and good safety practices.
