E-911 Operations Administrator
The City of Roanoke is seeking an Operations Administrator to serve in the E-911 Communications Center. Under the direction of the E911 Manager, the 911 Operations Administrator oversees the day-to-day operations of the 911 communications, serve as a backup in response to FOIA requests, and provide public safety agencies and attorneys with access to requested records and testifies in court.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists the 911 Manager in overall management of the 911 communications center
Plans, directs and organizes the operations of the 911 communications center's call-taking and dispatch activities for police, fire and emergency medical services.
Manages and coordinates staff development and training, performance management, employee relations, prioritizing and assigning work and related activities; Advises staff and makes decisions on difficult issues
Serves as a backup in response to FOIA request; provides public safety agencies and attorneys with access to requested records and testifies in court.
Implements and monitors industry and organizational performance standards
Participates in development of department budget
Assist in development of department's performance and strategic plans
Assists in the development, review, update, and implementation of policies and procedures for the department
Conducts research and analyzes department operations in regards to public need including 911 trends, public and user agency complaints and observations; investigates and resolves complaints regarding system, technical or personnel issues
Manages recruitment and hiring activities
Works closely with technology systems and training teams coordinators and operations specialists
Performs other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises work and activities of 4-6 Communications Supervisors in all manners of the day-to-day operations of the 911 Center. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Associate degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school; 5 years in a 911 communication center dispatching police, fire and EMS services along with supervisor experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
