Compliance Service Member
CALEA currently has openings for both English and Spanish speaking Compliance Services Members. The Compliance Services Member (CSM) position is a part-time non-exempt position that reports directly to the Compliance Services Manager. Qualified candidates seeking the Spanish speaking CSM opportunity must be proficient with the Spanish language to include verbal and written formats. The primary role of this position is to remotely provide annual and directed accreditation assessment reviews of candidate agencies and document findings within the corporate assessment reporting platform.
The position is critical to informing the Commission regarding the ongoing status of candidate agencies’ standards compliance and contributing to a broader reporting system to support such agencies in achieving and maintaining accredited status through the Commission. The position must effectively serve as a CALEA Standards expert and resource to the Commission, as well as those agencies participating in accreditation programming.
The position requires the ability to establish effective working relationships with chief executive officers and the staff of law enforcement agencies, public safety communication centers, public safety training academies, and private security organizations. The position must also be effective in interacting at a professional level with elected officials, city managers, and other organization leaders who are associated with the field of public safety and may be used to confirm compliance with applicable standards.
This position requires a broad knowledge of public safety policies, operational procedures, and administrative practices. Crucial elements include validating compliance for qualifying public safety agencies with regard to CALEA standards and documenting these findings. The position also requires the capacity to prioritize work, present effectively in verbal and written format, and communicate effectively with those involved in the accreditation process. The position must be able to work with minimal supervision and use general direction to meet specific work objectives. The CSM must be effective in using contemporary office automation and remote work technologies, as well as have the capability to employ conferencing technologies to deliver information to clients across all CALEA service areas and regions.
The CSM has the primary responsibility of remotely assessing and directly auditing agency compliance with CALEA Standards through the CALEA® PowerDMS™ Accreditation Management System and reporting findings within the established assessment reporting platform.
• Perform remote follow-up audits of candidate agencies as directed by the Commision.
• The CSM is responsible for capturing and subsequently communicating effectively all standards-related compliance findings with client agencies. This includes responding to questions from clients as it relates to standards and processes, and providing direction on strategies to resolve compliance issues.
• The CSM analyzes general and complex issues pertaining to the application of standards for any of the various public safety organizations serviced within the accreditation process.
• The CSM prepares and remits professional quality reports as required by the Commission.
• The CSM consults with the Compliance Services Manager as necessary in rendering compliance decisions.
• The CSM communicates effectively with other members of CALEA staff to ensure a seamless delivery of services to clients. This includes the ability to understand and appreciate the perspectives of others, and the willingness to accept redirection based on broader workflow responsibilities and corporate priorities.
• The CSM provides regular work activity reports to the Compliance Services Manager to strategically develop and deliver services in a manner that complements the broader organization mission.
• The CSM must maintain an awareness of other organizational functions and the interconnectivity between corporate services and client support.
• The CSM must be aware of all standard updates and Commission interpretations issued at each CALEA Conference.
Educational and Other Requirements:
• A Bachelor’s Degree is desired, but an equivalent combination of experience, training, and education may be substituted.
• Extremely knowledgeable of CALEA standards for each accreditation programs.
• Broad knowledge and application of public safety policies, operational procedures and administrative practices.
• Ability to analyze public safety policies and apply them to standards.
• Ability to initiate and maintain interactive relationships in order to effectively explain assessment findings and concepts to agency executives, accreditation managers, staff members, and Commissioners.
• Ability to assemble materials and resources to support the needs of the Commission.
• Ability to make decisions based upon analysis of pertinent information and public safety trends.
• Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and effectively with a wide range of clients, employees, and the public.
• Ability to work effectively in a virtual office environment.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Proficient with operating office automation within a cloud-based virtual environment.
• Proficient in using web-based portals to perform work responsibilities.
• Able to gain and maintain proficiency with CALEAm work responsibilities.
• Able to gain and maintain proficiency with the CALEA® PowerDMS™ Accreditation Management System.
• Able to gain and maintain proficiency with the CALEA® Information and Management Reporting System.
• Proficient keyboarding skills to meet work requirements.
