
Accreditation Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the management of records and the coordination of the Police Department’s accreditation process and state certification program and responsible for coordinating the department’s efforts to obtain grant funding by the identification and development of viable grant proposals. Oversees the long-term integration of department policies and procedures to meet the requirements set forth by Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the State of Georgia Certification through Georgia Chiefs of Police. Reports to the Police Deputy Chief.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Coordinates the accreditation and state certification program and ensures maintenance of records and proofs for compliance that correspond to the standards set forth by CALEA, GACP and other public safety accreditation and certification programs in which the Police Department participates for annual compliance.
Coordinates the annual process of reviewing and updating department directives.
Reviews proposed changes or amendments to accreditation and certification standards and process changes and evaluates the impact of these changes to the Police Chief.
Completes administrative, accreditation and certification reports, compiles and/or tracks various administrative and/or statistical data.
Identifies and develops new programs, systems, procedures or equipment specifications for the improvement of agency performance in compliance with applicable accreditation and certification standards.
Plans and monitors accreditation/certification on-site assessments and maintains appropriate records relating to accreditation/certification activities; prepares the department for mock and on-site assessments.
Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs or conducts administrative or management studies relating to accreditation/certification.
Determines analytical techniques and information-gathering processes and obtains required information and data for analysis; analyze alternatives and makes recommendations.
Discusses findings with Police Command and prepares reports of study conclusions; assists in developing and implementing departmental or program goals and objectives; facilitates presentations as directed.
Serves as the Police Department’s liaison to accreditation and certification organizations and networks with local, state and federal accreditation managers and program managers.
Attends accreditation and certification meetings and conferences as required to remain knowledgeable of operations, to promote improved job performance and to stay current with changing policies and procedures.
Assists in the planning, coordinating, implementing, and securing of external grants to supplement operational expenditures and the capital needs of the department.
Coordinates and oversees the development of selected grant proposals.
Prepares and compiles all components of grant submissions, ensuring that the proposal is formatted, packaged, and submitted in accordance with granting agency’s requirements.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Special Requirements:
Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and an acceptable driving record. This position is deemed safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of federal and state laws, local ordinances, and departmental rules/regulations and of law enforcement practices, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of all applicable standards, practices and regulations of any accreditation or certification association or commission, including CALEA and GACP.
Knowledge of database principles and practices, as well as computer and software application as it relates to reporting and analysis of data.
Knowledge of government structure and leadership
Knowledge of research techniques, statistical gathering, and analysis.
Knowledge of grant programs, potential funding sources and skill in grant writing
Skill in organizational, management, human relations, and technical techniques.
Skill in effective communication practices.
Skill in research techniques, statistical gathering, and data analysis.
Ability to develop and implement long-term goals for the department in order to promote effectiveness and efficiency.
Ability to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner.

Ability to define issues, analyze problems, evaluate alternatives and develop sound, independent conclusions and recommendations in accordance with laws, regulations, rules and policies.
Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions or supervision by following verbal and/or written instruction effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force. Work requires the ability to exert very moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or workstation. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office environment. Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or closely related field; supplemented by four (4) years of related experience in policy drafting and writing, research, state law enforcement certification, grant coordination, and public safety administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Experience with PowerDMS software a plus. Experience in State of Georgia certification and CALEA accreditation is desirable.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid State of Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
CALEA Accreditation Manager Certification is desirable.
