Description

Department: POLICE
Job Status: Full-Time
Days Worked: Mon., Tue., Wed., Thu., Fri.

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for overseeing the accreditation process for the Police Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Manages the department’s national and state accreditation process to include ensuring compliance and training and various types of presentations to department personnel and conducts regular reviews with appropriate staff.

Revises department policy and procedures manuals and catalogs to ensure standard operating procedures are reliable and up-to-date and meet all current Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), legislative mandates and judicial rulings.
Develops, writes, revises, and manages the department’s catalog of policies and forms to meet accreditation standards; and maintains accreditation files.

Ensure regular reviews of policies and procedures to meet all current CALEA, legislative mandates and judicial rulings.

Identifies and verifies compliance with established law enforcement standards, correcting any noted deficiencies through policy, training, or other administrative measures; reviews standards and ensures the department remains in compliance; stays abreast of all aspects of the accreditation process to include proposed changes or amendments to the standards, and assesses the impact of changes on current policies and procedures.

Provides various presentations to Forest Park Police Officers and command staff about accreditation, policy, and other planning issues.
Ensure all CALEA required reports and all-time sensitive activities occur as needed. Maintain accreditation files to ensure re-accreditation, handling standards updates and changes. Manage the software system for policy, training, CALEA, and other records.

Assist in planning, overseeing, coordinating, and implementing the Police Department training program for all sworn and non-sworn staff; assists in identifying and resolving problems related to training issues as it relates to CALEA standards.

Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records of the work performed; prepares clear and concise reports to monitor the success of training programs; creates related written materials as it relates to CALEA standards.

Performs other duties as assigned. (Includes but not limited to Evidence, Quartermaster, E-911 Communications)

Education and Experience:
Formal education equivalent of a Bachelor's degree is preferred in accounting, finance, or related field. Equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job. Must have knowledge of document filing systems, customer service, and records management and at least 2 year of budget experience; or any.

· Principles and practices of business communication, including business letter writing and report preparation, oral speaking, and presentation.

· Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data.

· Ability to apply principles and in coordinating activities of a project, program, or designated area of responsibility.

· Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

· Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

· Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

· Ability to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.

· Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

· Thorough knowledge of law enforcement accreditation standards including management philosophies and operations and related familiarity with state, federal and other local agencies, and organizations.
Thorough knowledge of public administration philosophies and concepts.

· Knowledge of office equipment and personal computer to include word processing and a variety of presentation media. Thorough knowledge of computer systems and business applications.

· Training Concepts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.

Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.

Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.

Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
