After a two-year study by a special task force comprised of law enforcement officials from the United States and Canada, the CALEA Board of Commissioners introduced two new groundbreaking programs at the Schaumburg, IL meeting, the CALEA Recognition Program and the State Alliance Program. more

Multimedia: An Investigative Tool 
Presented at the July 2000 CALEA Conference in Schaumburg, Illinois, by John San Agustin, Crime Multimedia Specialist for the El Paso County (CO) Sheriff’s Office. John develops multimedia applications for complex investigations as well as grand jury and court proceedings, based on physical evidence and expert opinion. more

Officer Down, Needs Assistance
Submitted by Reginald Newell who is currently CALEA’s Research/Planning Coordinator. 
Every time the public dials 911, they expect that their emergency will be taken seriously and handled competently. The police will race to their burgled home, the firefighters will speedily douse their burning house, and the ambulance crew will stabilize their injured loved one and whisk him or her to the nearest hospital.

At its Schaumburg, IL meeting, CALEA accredited The Rhode Island E911 Uniform Emergency Telephone System and the Rock County (WI) Communications Center as the second and third Public Safety Communications agencies to receive Public Safety Communications Accreditation.

Such incidents frequently require the commitment of tactical units with special training and resources, and pose an elevated risk of injury to officers, innocent persons and suspects. more

Chief Ronald Ferrell, Ph.D., was one of five assessors who scored 100% on the assessor test in Schaumburg, IL. Chief Ferrell said, "Assessors have to know what they are doing and the test was appropriately difficult."

CALEA needs your help in maintaining an accurate database. Please notify CALEA when there are changes made in your organization that may affect CALEA. These include changes in CEO’s or accreditation managers, agency address, or changes in area codes, telephone, fax and extension numbers. Your cooperation enables us to maintain an up to date database.

Additionally, PAC officials should notify CALEA of appropriate changes.
