Newell Reggie joined the CALEA staff in February 2000, to take on a new position designed to coordinate CALEAs research activities and help develop CALEAs Strategic Plan for the 21st Century. In this position, he serves as staff liaison to the Strategic Planning Committee and the Standards Review and Interpretation Committee (SRIC). Reggie spent the first 30 years of his working life working for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (AFL-CIO) as Director of Research. In this capacity, he had responsibility for all research and planning activities of this major union. This included providing background and participating in major collective bargaining negotiations (Boeing, General Electric, etc.) as well as preparing background papers and testimony on key legislative issues for presentation to various congressional committees. After retiring in 1996, he began working for the Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) as Manager of Labor and Other Member Segments. In this capacity he represented employee assistance professionals, including many such professionals working for federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. He was able to provide new, in-depth analyses of the associations membership using the existing client database. He also designed the associations first client needs assessment survey. He has both a bachelor and a masters degree as well as additional post-graduate work. In his spare time, he enjoys shooting, tennis and bridge.
