NEWS RELEASE

2007 EXECUTIVE BOARD

December 1, 2006

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) is pleased to announce its 2007 Executive Board.  The Commission elected its Board of Officers during the annual Fall Conference held November 2006 in Reno, Nevada.  Board terms are effective January 1, 2007.

CALEA is an independent accrediting authority created in 1979 by the four major law enforcement executive associations: International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE); National Sheriffs' Association (NSA); and Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).

The Commission was established for two reasons: to develop a set of law enforcement standards, and to establish and administer an accreditation process through which law enforcement agencies could demonstrate voluntarily that they meet professionally recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery.  Over the years, additional credentialing programs have been developed.  In January 1999, the Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program for public safety communications centers was offered, followed by the CALEA Recognition Program, which is tailored for smaller law enforcement agencies.  In 2001, CALEA launched the Public Safety Training Academy Accreditation Program.  As a whole, these programs have produced a modern management improvement model for public safety agencies.

Re-elected to the 2007 Executive Board were: Commission Chairperson/President, James M. O’Dell, Chief of Police, Kettering, Ohio; Commission Treasurer, Patrick Oliver, Director, Criminal Justice Program, Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio; and Commission Secretary, Robert Greenlaw, Managing Member, Public Safety Consultants, LLC, Rutherford, New Jersey.  Newly elected to the Board was Commission Vice President, Lou Dekmar, Chief of Police, LaGrange, Georgia.

The Commission has 21 members; 11 members are law enforcement practitioners; the remaining 10 members are from the public and private sectors.  The position is voluntary with Commissioners appointed to a term of three years.  The Commission meets three times each year.

CALEA congratulates the 2007 Executive Board.
